Belgian Red Devils with Eden Hazard prepare for 2014 World Cup qualifications

Belgium is preparing for 2 important games against  Wales and Croatia, Friday and Tuesday. After 12 years, it is time this generation qualifies again for a major tournament.

Besides Eden Hazard playing for Chelsea, the list of Clubs the other Belgian players are playing for is nothing less than impressive: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Werder Bremen, Bayern, Benfica, Zenit, Everton,  Anderlecht, …

All will depend on how the very inexperienced coach, Marc Wilmots, will finally be able to organize the Belgian defence. Since more than 10 years, the Belgian defence is missing a real leader that ensures organisation is and STAYS in place. Every match one or two mistakes result in fatal goals. It is hopes Nicolas Lombaerts (man with best overview, stays calm) or even Vincent Kompany (not his strength) can finally take up this role, and puts any defender into place who is not following what was agreed upon.

What is equally important is that Daniel Van Buyten (in his homeland called “Van Blunder”, which means Mr. Oops-I-made-a-mistake-which-led-to-another-goal) is kept on the bench. On the offensive side, Daniel is a really great asset when needing to score in the last 20 minutes via corners, throwing him in as an extra attacker (how he started his career, and he cán score in less than 20 minutes!). Daniel is a real professional, but he has made Belgium lose too many games.

It is expected that Belgium will get past Wales, but will suffer from the same old problems against Croatia, who have killers who don’t waste chances presented as gifts.
Coach Wilmots has everything to lose, and nothing to win. If he doesn’t qualify, his career in Belgium as a coach is definitely over before it started.

The current ideal eleven for Wales simply is the following:
