Belgium returned Saturday from Wales with a 0-2 victory. The “Red Devils” played a mature game, with a solid defense, and staying patient to find an opening in the Welsh defense. It should be said that Belgium got some help after James Collins was sent off with a red card for foul play.

The game itself wasn’t great football at all. Wales only thought about defence, and Belgium wasn’t able to speed up the game. Mertens’ actions were often too inaccurate, and Dembélé slowed down the game more than he should by unnecessarily dribbling horizontally with the ball.

In the next game Dembélé will be replaced by Steven Defour, who has great vista, and needs to help stop Modric from reaching his attackers.

And Hazard? Hazard played a fair game, with several good passes. However, he was not able to make a difference, and many fans expected more from him. The Chelsea midfielder with number 17 on his shirt hasn’t been able to play at the same level in the Belgian shirt, as he does and used to for Chelsea and Lille.

It is true, Eden Hazard wasn’t playing on his favorite position, playmaker, but was positioned as right-winger. Nevertheless, the next game is a crucial one, and if this generation wants to go to the World Cup in Brazil, the most talented players will have to stand up.

If there are several reasons why Eden Hazard is not able to play “his game” in the Belgian team , he needs to talk to the coach, and find a solution.

The Belgian fans and press are expecting Eden Hazard to have the same level of gameplay against Croatia. Especially in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium, many fans are not fully convinced if Eden already can make the difference for Belgium.

Eden needs to take up the same responsibility within the Red Devils, and be one of the leading Belgian players versus Croatia. If there are several reasons why Eden Hazard is not able to play “his game” in the Belgian team , he needs to talk to the coach, and find a solution. There simply is no time to waste anymore, and players need to work as a team if they want to witness Rio De Janeiro in 2014.
